Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS)

Very simply this is a device that sits in between your server and the mains power supply.
It smoothes the power supply protecting the server from any spikes, but more importantly includes a battery, so in the event of a power failure the server can be shut down gracefully thus reducing the risk of loss of data or corruption.
Whenever amicitia engages with a new customer, we carry out an audit of the existing set-up which most of time includes a UPS, but more often than not the UPS is not set up correctly.
Correct set up would include the server running the management software for the UPS, and having a communications cable between the server and UPS, so that if the power fails, the UPS will tell the server to shut down gracefully.
Installing the software and cable can take just an hour, but save days in lost time and cost to recover a damaged server.
